ABS’ Dr. Jeffrey Beecher Receives “Guardian Angel” Pin From Grateful Patient
You restored the fullness of my life,” said Susan Reilly of Wilmington, NC as she presented Dr. Jeffrey Beecher, of Atlantic Brain and Spine (ABS), with a “Guardian Angel” pin. These pins are presented as a token of gratitude by patients who have donated to Novant Health in someone’s honor. Ms. Reilly was moved to honor Dr. Beecher after he performed two complex brain surgeries to heal her subdural hematoma the previous spring. She’d been knocked over when on a walk with her dog and suffered a traumatic brain injury; as a septuagenarian, she knew her injury could be incapacitating or even lead to death.
During the ceremony, performed at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, Dr. Beecher was honored for his dedication to saving patients like Reilly. He performed not one, but two craniotomies on his patient, clearing out the built up fluid that was putting pressure on her brain. To meet Ms. Reilly now, you would never know she’d had major issues with mobility, memory, and language. A true guardian angel, ABS’ Dr. Beecher used advanced techniques and cutting edge technology to save Ms. Reilly’s life.
